Fred Nelson is a Principle Project Manager for the Public Utilities Department of Collier County, Florida who is currently working on a project that will consolidate county warehousing operations. With a diverse background of 15 years in manufacturing and operations, 15 years in the United States Marine Corps, 4 years in county government, and co-owner of a hair salon for 6 years, Fred has accumulated a wealth of knowledge in business and operations management. Fred’s professional career started when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17, later earning a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant at age 22. During his time as a Marine, Fred served as a Military Police Officer, Supply Officer, Platoon Commander, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer splitting his time in the security, supply and logistics, and recruiting fields. His time in the private sector was spent with Weir Oil and Gas, Bell Helicopter a Textron company, Parker Hannifin Aero Space Division, Wayne Dalton a division of Overhead Door Corporation, and Allante Salon LLC in Naples, FL.
Coming from a large family, Fred learned how to stretch a dime at a young age. Buying a house to fit the family as it grew was mostly not an option. Initially born out of necessity, Fred developed a love for renovation. To date he has renovated or remodeled ten houses ranging from minor paint and reflooring to major gut and rebuilding. Fred is currently working on remodeling his Naples house and property to fit his extended foster family of seven. As a father and husband Fred spends most of his spare time meeting the needs of his growing family and being the best roll model he can be.
